How To Recover Deleted Whatsapp Messages On Android

We all might have done this at least once, tapped on the wrong icon and sent a crucial message to the trash.

But if you are using Whatsapp, then this is how you can recover that deleted messages.

Whatsapp automatically creates a backup of messages every night, and therefore you should be fine if the message you are looking for is not that old.

How To Restore Your Most Recent Backup :

  1. Uninstall Whatsapp
  2. Reinstall Whatsapp
  3. Click Restore when prompted during restoring chat history
  4. Done!

Unfortunately, this will not work if the phone number is different, your backup is a bit on the older side or you might have deleted the backups.

How To Restore Older Backups :

By older backups, we mean days and not months. Whatsapp creates backups only of the last seven days. Anything older than that would be impossible to recover.

Before we get started, you should make a fresh manual backup. To do that, go to SettingsChats and CallsBackup Chats/ Chat Backup.

This backup will be saved as “msgstore.db.crypt8 in your /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder. You can rename this as “msgstore.db.crypt8.current” so that you don’t get confused.

How To Recover :

  1. Uninstall Whatsapp
  2. Choose the backup file you want to restore in /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases
  3. Rename it from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt8 to msgstore.db.crypt8
  4. Reinstall Whatsapp
  5. Click Restore when prompted

These are the few ways you can recover your Whatsapp Messages if you own an Android Device.
